Energy, Transportand Climate Policy
Through its inter- und transdisciplinary scientific analyses, the Division supports the development of transformative policy strategies in a polycentric multi-level governance. With conceptualisation, assessment, and contextualisation of policy strategies, it contributes as an architect and navigator to implementing the necessary transformation processes towards a climate-friendly and resource-efficient world.
The scientific work on policy strategies includes the analysis, development, testing and evaluation of policy concepts, policy packages, single instruments, actor constellations, and policy processes at the local, regional, national, or international level. Policy instruments in the field of energy end-use efficiency are a particular focus area. The policy strategies examined are geared to the climate, energy, mobility, and sustainability targets and their interactions, above all
- the targets of the Paris Climate Agreement, particularly the 1.5 degree Celsius limit
- an energy-efficient and sufficient energy and transport system, based on 100 per cent renewable energies, and
- the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as guardrails of a socially and gender-just transformation respecting the planetary boundaries.
Overall, the Division Energy, Transport and Climate Policy includes five synergetic Research Units: Energy Policy, Global Climate Governance, Mobility and International Cooperation, Mobility and Transport Policy, and Urban Transitions.
