Long-Term Maintenance of the Consumers Information Portal Siegelklarheit

  • Project no.451383
  • Duration 12/2017 - 12/2018

The promotion of a sustainable consumption obtained political priority with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the context of SDG 12 "Responsible consumption and production". As the sustainable consumption in Germany lags behind the objectives of the agenda 2030, it ought to be further promoted within Germany's National Sustainable Development Strategy with the National Programme on Sustainable Consumption from 2016.

The way to do this is through a better access to information for consumers, especially through the improvement and the expansion of product labels and product seals. They ought to function as filters and allow the consumers to find sustainable products quickly and purposefully.
However, there is a flood of product seals which threatens to overtax the consumers. This makes it problematic to find those seals that are trustworthy and credible.

This is where the web portal Siegelklarheit.de is positioned. Consumers can find out about seals and can find quickly those they can rely on in the respective product groups. In the National Programme on Sustainable Consumption the expansion, and in particular the distribution of the portal, is mentioned several times. It is supposed to be an important element in the sustainability strategy.

Currently, Siegelklarheit.de and other information portals are visited mostly by consumers, who already have a critical look at their consumption and who are open to issues of sustainable development. Therefore, the central challenge of this project is to make Siegelklarheit.de public and accessible for everyone.
