New Urban Pathways to Better Air Quality and Climate Actions: A Call for Action by Cities

  • Project no.251147
  • Duration 02/2017 - 08/2017

This project will assist national governments and cities in collaboratively identifying policy measures in line with the New Urban Agenda and the respective Nationally Determined Contributions of up to four countries (Brazil, India, Kenya, Vietnam). The project will take a holistic approach and optimise the synergies between transport, energy, and resource management operations. It will build on UN-HABITAT's "Urban Electric Mobility Initiative", undertaking for example detailed policy measures that would result in the greater uptake of electric mobility in conjunction with a transition to clean energy sources. This project aims to

  • Reduce emissions from cities with a particular focus on transport and deliver on the New Urban Agenda and the Paris Agreement,
  • Reduce local air pollution and thus improve health,
  • Improve access to sustainable urban services, and
  • Decouple economic activity from greenhouse gas emissions.
