Comparison of Alternative Heat Supply Systems in Residential Buildings

  • Project no.1152
  • Duration 05/2008 - 11/2008

The structure of heat supply in buildings and especially in new buildings is going to change. Due to increased climate and energy policy requirements and a generally decreasing demand of heating, alternative heat supply systems in residential buildings will become more important.
The aims of this project are as follows:

  • Analysis of the technical, ecological and economical performance of alternative heating supply units in buildings with respect to a changed energy system;
  • Comparison of solutions based on natural gas with solutions based on alternative energy sources;
  • Comparison of local and district heating concepts for supplying single objects with heat.

Residential buildings are prioritised since they are a main factor in the distribution of natural gas at the moment. This project will be conducted in five work packages:

  • Selection and specification of representative buildings;
  • Specification of corresponding energy supply options;
  • Dynamic analysis of the electric system until 2030 as a central and result-determining variable;
  • Balancing of actual and over time energy costs and emissions;
  • Comparison of the selected alternative heat supply concepts.
