Analysis of Published Energy Scenario Studies in the Project "Energy Systems for the Future"

  • Project no.150248
  • Duration 06/2014 - 01/2015

The project's objective was to analyse available scenarios for Germany to the year 2050 and to reprocess specifically for the needs of the ad hoc working group "flexibility concepts" of the project "Energy Systems of the future" of the Academy for Science and Engineering. Based on an overview of more than 60 existing scenarios eight scenarios - representative for the development perspectives of the German energy system - have been selected. Furthermore, these scenarios indicate the future demand for technologies enabling system flexibility (e. g. When does storage demand occur? How long are the periods for which storage is needed?). In addition, they allow other relevant analyses from a system perspective (e. g. projections of the resource or recycling demand for the use of specific technologies requiring critical resources). The focus of this analysis was the power system, including its interactions with the heating sector (power to heat/power to gas), the gas sector (power to gas) as well as the transport sector (power to gas/power to fuels).
