UN Environment Programme: Exchange of knowledge on electrification of two and three wheelers in low and middle income countries

The Global Conference on Electric Two and Three Wheelers is the first of its kind bringing together stakeholders from Asia, Africa and Latin America to discuss how these relatively new vehicle technologies can contribute to sustainable development. During the four-day event taking place from 9 to 12 October 2023, representatives from 11 Asian, 10 African and four Latin American countries as well as international experts will convene in Bangkok to exchange knowledge on the electrification of two and three wheelers in low and middle income countries.

The spectrum of topics ranges from the introduction and further development of ongoing projects to the presentation of solutions from the private sector to recommendations for state actors on how to increase the safety and inclusiveness of vehicles.

Kanya Pranawengkapti, Junior Researcher in the UN-Habitat Collaborating Center Research Unit at the Wuppertal Institute, will speak on "Innovative approaches to e-mobility" on 10 October, starting 9.55 am. On 11 October, Dr.-Ing. Shritu Shrestha, Senior Researcher in the same Research Unit, will contribute during a panel on "Enabling policy and regulatory framework for electric 2&3 wheelers" from 3.30 pm and will give a presentation on how to improve gender inclusion in electric two-wheelers from 4.30 pm onwards.
