Steering Group
The Steering Group, which consists of the heads of all of the organisational units as well as the head of Research Organisation and Quality Control and the head of Scientific Services and Organisation, advises and supports the Commercial Director.
Research Council
The heads of the Research Groups, the Cross-Cutting Subjects, the Support and Staff Functions and the Public Relations Office form the Research Council, which advises the President on fundamental research strategy.
The International Advisory Board stands for the independence of research and the Institute's scientific quality. It evaluates the Wuppertal Institute's annual research agenda, which is then passed by the Supervisory Board.

The Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy is a non-profit limited company (gemeinnützige Gesellschaft mit beschränkter Haftung, according to German law) owned solely by the Land North Rhine-Westphalia. Dr Michael Stückradt, State Secretary in the Ministry for Innovation, Science, Research and Technology of North Rhine-Westphalia, is Chairman of the Supervisory Board.
