The Wuppertal Institute collaborates with a multitude of universities and institutes in Germany and abroad.
It has formal cooperation agreements with the Center for Environment and Energy Research and Studies (CEERS) in Tehran, the University of Osnabrück and the University of Wuppertal. The Wuppertal Institute offers practical scientific training to complement the qualifications gained at the tertiary educational institutions with which it cooperates. The Institute signed a framework contract with the FernUniversität/University of Hagen (Professors Gerd Simonis and Lenelis Kruse) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology (UMSICHT) in Oberhausen (Professor Eckhard Weidner) on collaborating in an interdisciplinary distance-learning programme for environmental sciences (The somewhat misleading acronym for its German title is Infernum). A cooperation agreement was also reached with the University of Kassel. Furthermore, the Wuppertal Institute and the Institute for Foundation and Innovation Research (IGIF) of the University of Wuppertal agreed upon corporate research.
The Wuppertal Institute regularly conducts joint research projects with the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) in Japan and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) based in Mumbai, India. The Institute also collaborates with numerous universities in Germany and abroad on a project basis.
