The Wuppertal Institute collaborates with a multitude of universities and institutes in Germany and abroad.
It has formal cooperation agreements with the Center for Environment and Energy Research and Studies (CEERS) in Tehran, the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering of the Tsinghua University Beijing, the University of Osnabrück and the University of Wuppertal. With an eye to exploiting the full synergies of our Wuppertal location, cooperation with Wuppertal University is especially intense. Many scientists from the Wuppertal Institute teach at the university, and research projects and postgraduate programmes are conducted jointly (e.g. with the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovations Research (iENTIRE).
The Wuppertal Institute offers practical scientific training to complement the qualifications gained at other tertiary educational institutions too. We have a framework contract with the FernUniversität/University of Hagen and the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology (UMSICHT) in Oberhausen for a collaboratory interdisciplinary distance-learning programme for environmental sciences (The somewhat misleading acronym for its German title is Infernum). There is also a cooperation agreement with the University of Kassel.
The Wuppertal Institute regularly conducts joint research projects with the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) in Japan and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) based in Mumbai, India. The Institute also collaborates with numerous universities in Germany and abroad on a project basis.
