"Renewables" - that is more than a term for the technical options of a worldwide, modern and sustainable energy system. It stands for many activities structured around climate protection. "Renewables" play an important role in our research programme. In cooperation with partners from the energy industry, housing industry and mobility sector, with university research groups, partners from industrial federations, NGOs, policy and, last but not least, with international media, the Future Energy and Mobility Structures Research Group at the Wuppertal Institute supports developments towards a worldwide sustainable energy production and supply. The call for climate protection is joined by the request to give renewables greater importance both in the economy as a whole and in everyday life. In this context, it is one of the great challenges for the future to integrate renewables into the energy system, and to combine this with other possibilities of climate protection, especially with energy efficiency and cogeneration. That is one particular subject within our scope of work.
