... for the world of science
A typical characteristic of practically-oriented research is a high degree of complexity. Close collaboration of many different fields and scientific disciplines is required if adequate solutions are to be developed. Accordingly, the scientific backgrounds in the Wuppertal Institute's project teams cover the spectrum of natural and social sciences and economics as well as engineering, philosophy and theology.
This collaboration makes the Institute unique in the science landscape, and is one reason why national and international networks, research associations and project consortia are keen to engage with us. Another reason is our extensive experience at national and international levels in acquiring and carrying out third-party-funded projects. We are well-versed in professional project management and effective quality control.
Cooperation agreements
The Wuppertal Institute has a framework agreement with the FernUniversität/University of Hagen and the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology (UMSICHT) in Oberhausen concerning cooperation in the interdisciplinary distance-learning programme for environmental sciences known as Infernum (the acronym for its title in German). In addition, formal collaboration has been agreed upon with the University of Kassel.
Further formal cooperation agreements exist with the Center for Environment and Energy Research and Studies (CEERS) in Tehran, the University of Osnabrück and the University of Wuppertal, for example. The Institute collaborates regularly on projects with the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) in Japan and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) based in Mumbai, India.
As a science business that is oriented towards the research market, the Wuppertal Institute - also owing to its independence as an autonomous limited company - demonstrates flexibility and expertise in cooperating with a multitude of scientific partners.
