... for the world of business
The Wuppertal Institute's success is based not least on the fact that we seek to mediate between science, business and politics, and therefore keep our sights on the practical applicability of our research. Business and industry is a focal point of our research activities at three levels:
Technologies
Major future business opportunities are linked to innovation and new technologies. For this reason, our research projects concern nano- and biotechnology as well as energy efficiency, renewable energy and hydrogen as fuels of the future – to name just a few examples.
Industries
Research questions relevant to the environment and sustainability vary widely from industry to industry. The Wuppertal Institute tailors its work to the needs of industries in order to respond to their particular needs, for example utilities, the aluminium industry or the information and telecommunication sector.
Businesses
While there is more to the economy than the sum of its businesses, in the end it is individual businesses which provide innovation, value creation and employment. And it is individual businesses which are expected to take responsibility for the environmental and social impacts of their products and manufacturing processes, from resource extraction to disposal. The Wuppertal Institute offers practical solutions to businesses, ranging from innovative management approaches to tailor-made instruments and the development of expertise within the individual company.
At all three levels, the business world relies on the Wuppertal Institute as an experienced partner. Our clients cover the spectrum from small and medium-sized companies to trade associations to global players. Time and again, our work demonstrates that competitiveness and responsible business decisions do not conflict, but are necessary requirements for one another.
Resource efficiency, for example
The basic idea behind resource efficiency is that more efficient use of energy and material inputs can lower costs substantially. This enhances businesses' competitiveness, creates or secures jobs and minimises stresses on the environment. The Wuppertal Institute is a partner of the business world and advises individual companies, trade associations and the German government in the realm of materials and energy efficiency.
