Research Groups

Research at the Wuppertal Institute takes place in interdisciplinary teams that are focused in four research groups.

Future Energy and Mobility Structures

Research Group 1 works on systems analysis and on questions of technology and infrastructure. In the field of energy and mobility it explores paths of transition to sustainable structures, investigating what they involve and which opportunities they offer. It develops dynamic potential analyses and technology assessments, always with a view to finding consistent paths of development.

Material Flows and Resource Management

Research Group 3 explores material flows from extraction to final disposal, calculating their global "ecological rucksacks" and the extent of land use involved. It develops concepts, strategies and instruments aimed at improving resource productivity and sustainable resource management.
